Holiday Math Activities

Just found this very old blog post I never posted, but a cute activity so here is the post!
Christmas in JULY right?!...
We have had so much fun this month learning numbers.  My studetns ahve been given multiple activities and opportunities to use dice and also tally marks.  They ahve learned so much and I am proud to say that almost all of my 4's and 5's know numbers 1-10 by site!  They are so excited to tell people too!  In our district, often an administrator may walk in and say what are you learning today, and preschoolers don't always know.  But this week is different, mine actually do!
WIth just a simple set of cute numners and erasers from teh Dollar Tree we made this math activity and my students love it.   They are really liking coutning and also sorting the erasers.  12 erasers come in a pack and they are cute and very colorful.
This little girl wanted to be the first one to show me she could lay this out all by herself.  She is moving onto her teen numbers next week!

I Am Back with Holiday Cheer!

Well, it has been a busy school year and I have been unable to blog!  So sad!  The things they are having us do now have just had me booked up when I would normally blog!  I want to thank everyone who has purchased some of my new products on Teachers Pay Teachers.  If you have not had a chance to head there I will leave a link!  I am creating things that I use in my room and that have direct link to learning and fun!  My students are really learning a lot from the things I have created.  I hope you will find them fun too!
This month I am featuring holiday fun!  Most of the units incorporate math.  I am finding my little ones really know their numbers by site now and I can move them onto counting things!  SO much fun!
Had over and grab my new math counting game for numbers 1-10.  It is so cute thanks to Krista Walden at Creative Clips!  She is amazing.  I also created a mini math unit that is easy to get ready!  So what are you waiting for- go grab something fun and new for your students for this holiday season!
Here is a little sneak peek!

Wacky Wednesday Celebration

Wacky Wednesday was on my to do list all year.  We finally had all the details planned out and had our day set!  We read the Dr. Seuss book and got started right as our "wacky students entered.  They were greeted by me in my wackiest creation I could manage...

It began with my students coming in through a tunnel!  This was the best part for my 3 year olds.  They walked past the writing table, but it had puzzles and they were all upside down!
Around the room things were a bit strange and shoes were everywhere!
More shoes!
We create crazy hats to go with our "wacky" theme and our crazy outfits!
There were eyes looking at us in the water beads and we even added shaving cream for extra fun!
With our snack we added ice cubes with plastic flies in them!  This was the best part of the day!  No one wanted to try fly water!

Drawing upside down with markers attached to rules provided entertainment all morning!
We began and ended by reading this book and everyone loved our celebration!  We will definitely be doing this again next year!
Our last activity, I did not photograph but outside we had hidden the letter "W" all around the playground.  We had each child see how may they could find and they were hidden everywhere.  We just write them with sidewalk chalk all over.

Holiday word wall alphabet freebie!

Hi everyone!  I have been getting my room all ready for the holidays and the month of December.  We have made a new word wall.  Grab this fun candy cane alphabet for your classroom too.  We are planning on adding all of our students pictures and names first and then add holiday words and words that begin with our weekly letters.  We are also adding little note pads around the room to allow and encourage more writing.  We have done this in years past and kids love going to the word wall and writing down words that are posted.  It is a great way to help young ones understand that when letters are next to each other they form words!  Hope you get a chance to use these letters in your room!  Enjoy!

Free Spider Math Grid Game

Grid games are popular in preschool math.  I have a student teacher right now getting ready to use one in my class as a project she is doing at the University of Cincinnati.   I thought I might create one too!  I have made many in the past, but sometimes I feel like my students are only ready to use these with a teacher helping.  Since most of the activities in my room students can do on their own, I usually do not have many grid games.  This year I am trying to create things to get ready for Teacherspayteachers.com. Here is another freebie for you to enjoy!  I have not put anything up there yet!  Still creating my store!  I have already printed it one out on card stock and it is ready to go for my students this week!
We are in full HALLOWEEN mode and the kids are so exited about the decorations and the colors switching to orange in black in many of my centers.  I am getting it all ready to photograph and post too!  In math this week, here is what we will be doing....a grid game!  I hope you can try printing it out and enjoying it too!  I do have one tip for printing anything that you want to make: Print directly onto card stock.  Then all you have to do is laminate!  Also, card stock in 110 pound weight works best for me.  It is heaviest and strongest and will go through a regular printer. I have used it at school too and the copier in my building can handle it. If you do not have a printer at home, print it and it comes out great in black and white too!  Kids will like it better in color I would guess, but I know that is not always possible.  Colored ink can get expensive.  I have one other tip too:  Card stock is cheap at Sam's Club.  Highly recommend staying away from Expensive office stores!  I paid double at one!  Sam's club has a package for $7.89.  Pretty cheap!

My First Halloween Freebie

Okay, I am working on creating my own learning games and materials to begin selling it on teacherspayteachers.com.  I am not quite there yet, but I wanted everyone to print and enjoy this math game.  I have been using this format with a few of the kids in my class and some really love this format.  We use clothes pin clips and have the child clip how many objects they see on the card.  After they are finished we talk and assess together how many card we get correct.  It is a fun and fast game for kids working on counting.  Try it and see what your kids think!  It is great for early kindergartners too!
Here is the file for you to download and try.  I would love feedback.  Just have your students count how many things are hiding in trees.
